Bourne End is a village in Hertfordshire, England. It is situated on the A41 between Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead.[1] There was a rail disaster on the West Coast Main Line at Bourne End on September 30, 1945 when an express train was derailed with many fatalities.[2]

Its name comes from the Bourne Gutter which flows into the River Bulbourne in Bourne End. According to local legend it only flows in times of national strife. It flowed in 1992 during the first Gulf War having not flowed since 1945, and again in 2003.
